Wooden Shopfronts

Timber has been the traditional material for Shopfront construction , because it has proved to be both versatile and durable, to the changing designs of shopfronts. Traditionally, the timbers used were teak, oak, black walnut and mahogany, chosen for their aesthetic as well as practical qualities. Nowadays, although there is a vast range of timbers available for shopfront joinery, it is still imperative that specifiers are aware of the properties of the timber and its durability..

The durability of the timber chosen will also depend on the aspect of the shopfronts and the finish applied to the timber. External finishes, such as paint, varnish or wood stains will extend the life of the timber greatly. It is also necessary to apply preservatives to some timbers, such as plywood, or surfaces which are to be painted.
A suitable grade of plywood for exterior use must always be specified when used in the construction of stall risers or other components of the shopfront.

Automatic sliding doors

The sliding door is the most widely used automatic door system. Boasting the greatest user friendliness and safety features it lends itself to volume traffic and simplicity of operation. Developed over years to a sophisticated level of intelligent control the sliding door is now available in many different styles and finishes.

Styles range from the traditional heavy duty extruded aluminium framed doors to all glass doors, slim section doors, prismatic doors, breakout doors, telescopic doors, acoustic doors, clean room doors etc all designed to meet a functional purpose or aesthetic desire. Finishes include silver and bronze anodising, polyester powder paint, stainless steel and brass cladding and even timber to meet conservation codes.

Activation and safety features now include intelligent electronic sensing devices to ensure a door responds as people approach and that they are not put in jeopardy if they should be standing in the line of travel of the door leaves on opening or closing. In line with the ADSA code of practice on safety Kaba will recommend the use of threshold safety and side screen safety where appropriate to meet the needs of BS 7036:1996.
In the modern world security needs increase daily and Kaba fits the Kaba Quattro S special eurocylinder to all its door locks to give the customer greater control over who has keys. A simple registration system ensures that keys cannot be copied at the local key bar.
